Sujan S. Patel is Global Head of Real Estate for SVPGlobal, which is a global investment firm focused on distressed debt, private equity and event-driven opportunities and manages approximately $11Bn of assets under management.
Prior to joining SVPGlobal Mr.Patel was the Managing Director and Co- Head of U.S. Investment Management at Colony Capital (NYSE: CLNY) and held such position since the combination of Colony and NorthStar in January 2017. In addition, Mr. Patel served as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Colony Credit Real Estate (NYSE: CLNC) since its formation in January 2018. Prior to the combination of Colony and NorthStar, Mr. Patel was Managing Director and Co-Head of Investments at NorthStar Asset Management (NYSE: NSAM) and NorthStar Realty Finance (NYSE: NRF), where he was directly involved in or oversaw over $25 billion of closed transactions. He was responsible for overseeing the sourcing, structuring and execution of opportunistic equity, debt and strategic platform investments across all asset types and geographies for NorthStar and its successor, Colony Capital.
Prior to joining NorthStar in 2007, Mr. Patel was with Thayer Lodging Group, a lodging-dedicated private equity firm now owned by Brookfield Asset Management, focusing on all aspects of sourcing, acquiring, financing and disposing of over $2 billion of hotel investments. Mr. Patel began his career at Morgan Stanley in their investment banking division based in New York. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate and is a member of the Board of Advisors of the Graaskamp Center for Real Estate at the Wisconsin School of Business. Mr. Patel also served on the Major Decision Committee of Island Hospitality Management and on the Board of SteelWave, a San Francisco Bay Area-based full-service commercial real estate management and operating company. In addition, Mr. Patel is involved in several real estate industry organizations including being Vice-Chair of the ULI Global Exchange Council and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and seminars. Mr. Patel was named by the Commercial Observer in March 2014 as a member of its “Power 100” list honoring top commercial real estate professionals. Mr. Patel received a Bachelor of Arts in Engineering Sciences modified with Economics from Dartmouth College and is a member of the Founders Circle for the Magnuson Center for Entrepreneurship at Dartmouth College.
