Kim Woodbury reimagines operations strategy at QuidelOrtho

Kim turns strategy into action at medical diagnostics leader QuidelOrtho. With deep expertise in operations and project management, she spearheads complex ventures like a multimillion-dollar management initiative to scale the manufacturing process, enhance product placement, and expand the company’s network.

Seeking to complement her engineering background and operations experience with business acumen, Kim found the perfect fit with WSB’s flexible, part-time professional MBA. “I needed something that balanced with my full-time job and allowed me to apply learnings in real time, while also creating a new network during my move from San Francisco to Madison.”

Through the program’s project-based format, Kim learned how to seamlessly navigate group dynamics, relying on collaboration and trust to solve problems and complete tasks. “My MBA taught me the important balance of individual work and group work, leaning into others’ strengths, and trusting the team to get the job done.”

About two years after graduation, Kim returned to WSB to pursue the program’s Global Business Badge, traveling to South Africa and Botswana. The trip fulfilled a lifelong dream to study abroad, while gaining insights to share with her international colleagues. “I wanted to learn more about how strategy is developed globally,” she says. “To get strategy right, you have to understand the global impact, the regional and country-specific focus points, and what’s important to the people who live there. Even if your message is the same, it can be translated differently in more than just a literal sense.”
