We are pleased to announce that Steve and Leslie Goldberg have established an endowed Directorship that provides the Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship at the Wisconsin School of Business support for its director, currently held by Dan Olszewski (BS ’87), former CEO of an IT distribution firm, co-founder of the Morgridge Entrepreneurial Bootcamp and recipient of multiple teaching awards, who joined the Weinert Center in 2006.
Steve (BBA ’79) joined Boatman’s Bancshares Inc. as an internal auditor and left for Edward Jones where he became a Limited Partner and then one of the youngest General Partners until his retirement. Steve and a partner then founded Benchmark Securities, a trading firm that provides liquidity into both the municipal and corporate bonds market. As Non-Executive Chairman, Steve is responsible for the vision and direction while managing the risk of the bond inventories.
Steve is a passionate UW alum and entrepreneur. He has participated in the Distinguished Entrepreneurs Lunch program and has supported the Weinert Center as a Forward Partner. Given Steve’s entrepreneurial drive and spirit and his belief in the great work done in the Weinert Center, this endowed Directorship will enable the Center to enrich the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the lives of their students by building and maintaining a top tier educational platform to nurture and train entrepreneurs. “My entrepreneurial mindset has been a huge contributor to my success and to know that this same mindset is being instilled upon students today is fantastic. It brings a smile to my face to know that Leslie and I can help ensure that my son, Will, and countless other UW students continue to benefit from the Weinert Center’s programming and great teachers like Dan,” said Steve Goldberg.
In addition to the Directorship, The Goldberg Family Directorship Fund will provide support to the teaching and research environment in the Center. The Goldberg’s $500K gift was doubled to $1M due to the matching dollar gift made available by John (BBA ’55) and Tashia (BSE ’55) Morgridge. John is the former CEO of Cisco Systems, noted philanthropist and one of the co-founders of the Morgridge Entrepreneurial Bootcamp.
In response to this directorship, Dan Olszewski said, “We are incredibly grateful for the many contributions of the Goldberg and Morgridge families to support the Weinert Center. It is especially impactful knowing them as very special people who are both incredibly successful entrepreneurs and are dedicated to providing the next generation of UW students with a great entrepreneurial education.”
