Mastering the Science and Art of Business

If I won the lottery, I would go to school forever. I know this is very different from most people in graduate school who can not wait to get out. I have always loved learning and getting to work with and teach others. I knew that eventually I would find myself being a student again and the Bolz Center was a great fit because I am able to combine my passions together.

I graduated from Carroll University in 2023 with degrees in psychology and theatre arts. One of the best things about my undergraduate experience was that I was able to specialize in a few different topics including social psychology and cognitive neuroscience along with directing and producing theatre. Many people I talk to do not see the link between these topics. I like to think of it as the study of people from both an artistic and scientific perspective.

After graduating, I went to work for two years in recreation therapy at a skilled nursing facility with rehabilitation, long term care, and hospice residents. I loved being able to blend science along with creativity to help others heal, find peace, and die with dignity. Additionally, I was able to become a CPR and basic life support instructor and help teach others how to make the world a safer place.

One of my favorite things about the Bolz Center is that I do not have to choose between topics and subjects. I can take classes in business, theatre, and even the neuroscience of creativity at the same time. The diversification of my education has led me to think more creatively and driven innovation in many aspects of my life.

This year I am working with the Wisconsin Union as an Event Specialist. The applied learning placement opportunity was one of my main draws for this program. I am someone who likes to learn through doing and this experience has been fantastic. In the fall semester I was an Assistant Producer for Badger Bash. This spring, I created the Olympics Watch Party Events at Union South. I have enjoyed being able to use sports to bring people together. The best thing about working with the Wisconsin Union is the ability to dream big and plan large events. The team is amazing and really encourages creativity and new ideas.

After graduation, I would love to continue creating and implementing exciting events and experiences and being able to re-enter the classroom as an instructor. I am unsure what the future holds, but I am certain that I will combine my passions to find success.
