Dan Kelly is chief financial officer/treasurer of American Family Insurance. His accountabilities include finance, enterprise risk management, internal audit, investments, and reinsurance.
Kelly received his BBA and MBA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is a certified public accountant, a former licensed insurance agent in Wisconsin, and has earned his Fellow, Life Management Institute and Associate in Customer Service designations.
He started his career at Arthur Andersen in Milwaukee, Wis., as a staff auditor. After two years there, Kelly began his career at American Family Insurance as a financial analyst in 1987 in the Controller Division. He was promoted to accounting manager in 1993 and then was named accounting director in 2000.
In 2003, Kelly moved to the Life/Health Division as a product design director working in operations. Four years later, he returned to the Controller Division as financial analysis director. He was elected vice president of human resources in October 2007. In July 2011, Kelly was named chief financial officer/treasurer.
In 2016, Kelly received the Distinguished Accounting Alumni Award from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
He and his wife, Lena, live in DeForest, Wis. Two of their three children are Wisconsin School of Business graduates.
