Kent Born is a senior managing director and head of the Commercial Real Estate Group (“CREG”) PPM America, Inc. (“PPMA”). In this capacity, he is responsible for the commercial mortgage loan and real estate securities portfolios. He oversees all aspects of the group’s investment activities and operations, including strategic planning, loan origination, equity investing, CMBS portfolio management, REIT credit analysis, and closing and servicing of all CRE investments. Kent served as co-head of the CRE group from July of 2013 through March of 2018, at which time he was promoted to head of the group. Prior to that, Kent had specific responsibility for PPMA’s CMBS investments as well as the credit analysis function for REITs.
Kent has 37 years of commercial real estate experience with five different institutions. Prior to PPMA, he held commercial real estate positions with Fitch Ratings, The Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York, Travelers Realty Investment Company and Equitec Properties Company.
Kent received a BA in economics from Northwestern University and an MBA in finance and marketing from the University of Chicago‘s Booth School of Business. He served on the CRE Finance Council (formerly “CMSA”) Board of Governors from June of 2002 through June 2018. He is also a past president of the council and a former member of its executive committee.
