Michael R. Grupe retired from the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (Nareit) following 20 years as Executive Vice President for Research and Investor Outreach. Nareit is the representative voice for real estate investment trusts (REITs) and publicly traded real estate companies worldwide with an interest in U.S. real estate and capital markets. At Nareit, Michael directed all research and investor outreach activities related to the collection and distribution of data on industry growth and development, analysis of real estate investment performance and communication with investors, policymakers and the public. Before joining Nareit, Michael was Chief of Mortgage and Consumer Finance in the Division of Research & Statistics at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, DC. Prior to his position at the Federal Reserve, Michael was senior vice president for mortgage-backed securities research at the investment-banking firm of Kidder, Peabody & Company in New York. Michael earned his Ph.D. degree in business-statistics from The University of Wisconsin. He now conducts investment research and trading, serves on the Advisory Board of the Applied Real Estate Investment Track program at the Graaskamp Center for Real Estate at the University of Wisconsin, and supports a scholarship program at Beloit College as well as other charitable activities.
