Y. Sekou Bermiss is an Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. His research lies at the intersection of strategic management, organizational theory, and strategic human capital. Bermiss primarily investigates how human capital—such as executives, founders, and key employees—shapes firm performance, innovation, and long-term competitive advantage. His work extensively explores employee mobility, examining how the movement of talent into and out of organizations affects a firm’s ability to compete. Additionally, he studies how institutional factors, corporate reputation, political ideology, status, and diversity influence organizational decision-making and critical stakeholder perceptions.
