Your past academic history—particularly your four-year degree—indicates to us your ability to succeed in a structured study program.
- Bachelor’s degree from an approved (accredited) institution is required.
- International applicants are required to have the equivalent of a four-year U.S. bachelor’s degree. View the minimum degree equivalents for different countries. You may want to have your transcript evaluated by the World Education Services to ensure you meet the four-year U.S. bachelor’s degree equivalency requirement.
- You can submit your application with unofficial transcripts. Certified copies of transcripts from your degree institution are required once admitted.
- The preferred method to receive official transcripts is electronically from your institution. Please access the Parchment website or contact your institution to make this request and send the transcripts to masters@wsb.wisc.edu. The Wisconsin Full-Time MBA requires the GMAT or GRE to assess academic readiness. We will accept the GMAT Superscore. However, applicants who demonstrate strong quantitative and analytical preparation through prior academic achievement and professional experience may request a test waiver.
Test waivers are granted selectively and do not guarantee admission.
Criteria:
Applicants must meet all three baseline eligibility requirements and demonstrate quantitative readiness through multiple indicators.
Baseline requirements (all are required)
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited (or equivalent international) college or university
- Minimum three years of full-time professional work experience
- 3.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA
- International GPAs must be equivalent to a 3.0/4.0 GPA
Demonstrated quantitative readiness (must demonstrate strength in any of the following areas by meeting at least two of the below)
Academic indicators
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in STEM, business, economics, finance, accounting, mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, or similar quantitative field
- GPA of 3.2+ overall or strong performance (B or higher) in quantitative coursework (e.g., calculus, statistics, finance, accounting, econometrics) based on at least three courses
Professional indicators
- Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in an analytical, financial, technical, or quantitative role
Credentials
- CPA, CFA, PE, FRM, or similar quantitative certification
- Submission of Executive Assessment, MCAT, LSAT, PCAT, or expired GMAT or GRE score
- Successful completion of an MBA prep course: MBA Math, GMAC Business Fundamentals, or HBS CORe
Advanced degrees
- Master’s or terminal degree (JD, MD, PhD, MS) with quantitative rigor
Submitting a test waiver request
To request a waiver, applicants must:
- Start (but not submit) their MBA application
- Submit a Test Waiver Request Form (in the application) including:
- Résumé
- Unofficial transcripts (all institutions attended)
- 250-word “Quantitative Readiness Statement” outlining evidence of preparedness
- Select from the list in the test waiver request form at least two of the indicators you’ve met that demonstrate quantitative readiness.
Waiver requests must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the application deadline for the desired round.
Decisions are released within 10 business days. After approval, applicants will be able to complete and submit their application.
Candidates who are below a 3.0 GPA are strongly encouraged to take either the GMAT or GRE to show the admissions committee they have the academic ability to handle the rigors of the MBA program.
Interested in submitting a test score for your application?
- Preparation is essential to get a good GMAT score. Statistics from the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) confirm a correlation between the score and the number of hours studied.
- A Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT or GMAT 10th Edition) score is preferred. The test should be taken within five years of the term for which you are applying. Please direct the testing service to forward your test results to the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The institution code is 79K-2S-72.
- A Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score will also be accepted. Please direct the testing service to forward your test results to the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The institution code is 1846.
- We look for students with strong verbal and quantitative skills, however there is no minimum score requirement for the GMAT or GRE. See how your scores compare with our current students.

Essay #1
At the Wisconsin MBA, examples of popular careers are consulting, finance, marketing, product management, real estate, human resources, risk management, general management, and beyond. While students may enter with a primary target industry or function, many choose to explore multiple career paths during the program.
Reflect on your professional journey and the experiences that have brought you to pursue an MBA at this stage of your career. What are your immediate post-MBA professional goals, and what longer-term impact do you aspire to have? Why is now the right time for you to pursue an MBA, and how will Wisconsin serve as a catalyst for your next step? (150–300 words)
Essay #2
Describe a professional challenge or setback you have faced. How did you respond, and what did you learn about yourself as a leader or teammate? Reflecting on that experience, how will the perspectives, skills, and lessons you have gained shape your contributions to the Wisconsin MBA community—both inside and outside the classroom? (300 words maximum)
Please share any information that will complement what you have already provided in your application. This is your opportunity to share any details with the admissions committee that you feel you were not able to address in other areas of the application. (300 words maximum)
Applicants are required to submit a video essay answering two randomized questions, post-application submission. You will receive an email after submitting your application. The video must be completed within 72 hours and recorded in the application portal.
- One recommendation is required; the admissions committee will accept up to two.
- Ask someone familiar with your professional accomplishments to provide a recommendation addressing your leadership or management potential.
- This individual may be a current or past supervisor or manager, a client or vendor, or a representative of a volunteer or community organization you are involved in.
- You will enter your recommender’s name and email address into your application. The recommender will receive an email with a link to your recommendation form. The recommendation forms are submitted separately from your application. Do not wait for your recommender to submit their recommendation before submitting your application; however, your application will not be reviewed without the recommendation form.
- $75 for both domestic and international students (additional $6 processing fee for international students)
- Fee waivers available if active duty in the United States military within five years of applying
- Payment by credit or debit card through the online application system; required to learn admissions decision

To enter the United States, you will need a student visa, usually an F-1. The process of acquiring a visa can take a long time, so please begin as early as possible.
Here is how you will get your visa. Please note, these steps MUST be completed in this order:
