In the past few years universities across the country have begun to grapple with their histories of racism and discrimination. Alongside national calls for the reevaluation of monuments, universities including UW-Madison have been forced to examine their campus monuments, historical markers, and building names. Central to this examination is the question – who is represented in our campus landscape? And who is not? Understanding the history of monuments is an important step in evaluating the critical issue of representation in our built environment. Join the UW-Madison Public History Project and the Wisconsin School of Business for a discussion of the history of monuments and historical markers at UW-Madison.
