Inspired by Jim Weinert’s generous gift at last year’s Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, Steve and Leslie Goldberg decided to make a significant contribution of their own. At the same time, they wanted to honor someone who has been a cornerstone of the Center’s success, Lisa Collins, while inviting others to join in the recognition.
Dan Olszewski, Goldberg Family Director of the Weinert Center, shared:
“Lisa Collins has been a driving force behind the Weinert Center for years, consistently going above and beyond to support students, faculty, and programs. Too often, recognition comes only after someone retires. The Goldberg’s had a great idea to celebrate Lisa now — while she continues to shape the lives of so many students.”
One of the greatest challenges was keeping the recognition a surprise while inviting advisory board members, WSB staff and faculty, and friends who have worked closely with Lisa over the years to participate in the gift. The surprise was a success — Lisa was deeply moved by the recognition and amazed by the breadth and magnitude of support. In addition to the Goldberg Family’s incredible $300,000 gift, more than $61,000 was contributed by 17 others, and the amount continues to grow.

To commemorate her contributions, a plaque was installed in the Center, and Lisa received a personal award for her office.
Steve Goldberg explained why this tribute was so special:
“Our goal was to make a meaningful gift to the UW and make a difference. Being able to support the Weinert Center’s mission while also recognizing Lisa, who has made such a difference in the lives of so many students and the entrepreneurship program, is a true win/win.”
Lisa expressed her excitement about the impact these gifts will have on students, the Center and the opportunities they will create.
Those who would like to be part of this ongoing tribute to someone who truly embodies the Center’s entrepreneurial mission and help create even more opportunities for the next generation of UW students can make a gift online to the Entrepreneurs Forward Fund (112171209) through the UW Foundation.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this effort — and to those who continue to champion the Center’s mission.
