On May 4th, nine Wisconsin School of Business MBA students had the incredible opportunity to see world-renowned investor Warren Buffett and his partner Charlie Munger. The Graduate Finance Organization hosted a weekend trip to attend the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting in Omaha, Nebraska. 40,000 attendees kicked off the event by watching the annual meeting video and participating in an all-day Q&A session in the CHI Health Center. Over the course of the meeting, Buffett discussed share buybacks, Kraft Heinz, government regulation, and his investing strategy. What struck me was how receptive Buffett and Munger were to the many teenagers who stepped up to the microphone. They provided advice about life, happiness, and investing with both patience and decisiveness.
During breaks from the Q&A session, attendees also had the opportunity to explore the exhibit booths and other entertainment provided within the CHI Health Center. Products from many of the Berkshire Hathaway subsidiaries were displayed and sold at steep discounts. Attendees could purchase Blizzards form Dairy Queen, chocolates from See’s Candies, Geico products, and various food products from brands including Heinz and Oscar Meyer. Attendees were also allowed inside one of the private jets available under the brand NetJets.
This trip was a great opportunity for like-minded MBA candidates to receive advice from legendary investors. In addition to the Annual Meeting, we had the chance to relax and socialize after a challenging yet rewarding semester.
