EntrepreNews
Fall 2017
Greetings,
It has been a busy fall at the UW and that seems to have been especially true in the realm of entrepreneurship. We are very happy to share some updates regarding these activities as well as some notable alumni news in this quarter’s newsletter. Each fall we hold the Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Showcase Event where over 500 students get a chance to hear four entrepreneurs talk about their careers and businesses. Professor Jon Eckhardt does a great job organizing and MC’ing the event and it is followed by a speed networking hour where students rotate tables and get to spend 10 minutes talking/learning from over 30 different mentors from all facets of entrepreneurship. Thank you to all of the speakers, mentors, and donors who made this event a success. In addition to this mega event, we have held multiple smaller events. They range from a Master Coaching event where five local founders had a chance to get advice from a great set of successful entrepreneurs and investors to Partner Up where students from across the campus ‘pitch’ their early stage idea with a goal of getting feedback and potentially a co-founder. Each fall we also welcome a new class of Enterprise Development Fellows (second year MBAs who want to do a deep dive in entrepreneurship) and the Entrepreneurial Residential Learning Community (ERLC) welcomed 64 UW freshman to their community. In this newsletter, we have also included profiles on two alumni who are doing really interesting things in the world. They are following different entrepreneurial paths but both are using their UW education to find success in multiple endeavors.
We are also very pleased to announce that we have had an additional member join the Wisconsin Forward Partners Fund. This is a group of supporters who have made significant multi-year commitments to fund entrepreneurship programs operated by the Wisconsin School of Business. Our newest member is longtime advisory board member Andy Albert. He joins Andy Boszhardt, The Goldberg Family, John Neis, Thomas & Barbara Stevens and an Anonymous Donor in this initiative. Their support is critical to our ability to provide and expand the high-quality experiences to entrepreneurially minded students from across the campus. Thank you!
Best regards,
Dan
