Yu Ma

Yu Ma is an assistant professor of Operations Management at WSB. She earned her BA in Applied Mathematics with Highest Honors from UC Berkeley and her PhD in Operations Research from MIT, where she was named a Takeda Fellow. Her research develops artificial intelligence, optimization, and analytics methods to address significant problems in healthcare, from operational efficiency in clinical workflows to clinical decision-making at the bedside. A growing strand of her work addresses what it takes to deploy AI systems responsibly in practice: safety, robustness, and regulatory compliance. Her work has appeared in leading journals including Lancet Oncology and Nature npj Digital Medicine. Driven by a passion for tangible, real-world impact, she frequently collaborates with healthcare institutions and governmental agencies to implement solutions that directly improve patient care and hospital operations.
