Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday that classes began with the excitement and the promise of a new academic year. Fast forward to today and another school year is completed and our outstanding students are ready for their next adventure.
On Wednesday, May 1, the students in the Weinert Applied Ventures in Entrepreneurship (WAVE) class presented their business ideas to our advisory board. We thank our board members for their many gifts to the program, whether it be as a mentor to a student, speaking in a class, and/or providing advice and support.
Following the board meeting was the Weinert Center luncheon where we celebrated the achievements of our students and wished them well as they start the next stage of their careers. The awards that were presented include:
The LÜM Scholarship, sponsored by Live Undiscovered Music (also known as LÜM), was represented by co-founder Max Fergus who posed with award winner JT Nejedlo. JT is a triple major in entrepreneurship, information systems and marketing. This summer he will be an intern at Z2 Marketing Agency and will continue to work on his startup, Delu (Day-lou). The Alan C. Filley Outstanding Undergraduate Award was presented to Jack Pawlik. Jack is a real estate and urban land economics major and will graduate in May 2019. He has won the last two Transcend Madison Innovation Competitions with two different startups (Lineleap and Drip). Jack plans to continue to work full-time on both his startups, Drip and Cork Drinks. The Robert W. Pricer Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Scholarship Award was presented to Nicholas Peterson. Nick is majoring in computer sciences with a certificate in entrepreneurship and will graduate in May 2020. During the summer, he will continue to work on his startup Paladin One as a technology consulting agency while building Omen, an augmented reality game focused on making self-improvement fun. The Jon & Susan Udell Scholarship in Entrepreneurship was presented to Megan Stock. Megan is a student in the Center for Brand and Product Management and will be working for Amazon in Seattle, Washington as a Retail Leadership Development Program Intern this summer. She will be part of the Enterprise Development Fellowship program and working for us in the Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship next year. She will graduate with her MBA in May 2020.
The Outstanding WAVE entrepreneurship award is selected by the WAVE students for a classmate to receive special recognition regarding the advice and assistance the person gives to other teams to enhance and enrich their business ideas. This year’s vote ended in a tie. Co-recipients of the award were Rebecca Alcock & Donovan Walker. Rebecca will be receiving her Master’s degree in biomedical engineering in December 2019. Donovan is graduating in May 2019 and will be working for Hollister, Inc. in Libertyville, Illinois as a Product Manager.
