Rick Bechtel is a senior executive with 30 years of proven success in growing and optimizing mortgage, home equity, and consumer lending franchises. He possesses deep mortgage and fintech expertise, along with unique end-to-end breadth, including strengths in strategy, marketing, financial analysis, and compliance, operational, and credit risk management.
Bechtel is currently President of Mortgage for Compass, the nation’s largest real estate brokerage, and leading the startup of OriginPoint, a 50-state joint venture mortgage bank designed to serve its 30,000 agents and their clients. He is driving scale-up change management in operational processes, recruiting a global team of experts across a range of disciplines, and integrating a cutting-edge loan origination system into Compass’ state-of-the-art platform.
Prior to Compass, Bechtel served as Executive Vice President and Head of U.S. Residential Lending for TD Bank. In that role, he was accountable for 1,400 teammates and all aspects of the $28 billion mortgage and $9 billion home equity businesses. This included strategy, technology and product development, portfolio and P&L management, risk management, and leadership of national sales, marketing, and operations.
Bechtel earned his BBA in finance and marketing from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He is married to Andrea, who is also a Wisconsin School of Business graduate, and they have three children. They reside in Glencoe, IL.
