On Friday, November 15th and Saturday, November 16th, UW-Madison DECA attended the inaugural Wisconsin Collegiate DECA Fall Conference in Madison, Wisconsin. Led by Chapter President Jacob Genal, the team consisted of 28 undergraduate business and non-business students. This is the largest competition team the chapter has brought to a conference, surpassing last year’s record.
Students attended workshops highlighting the importance of leadership, resumes, and numerous aspects of professional development. One of the largest workshops of the weekend was the Chapter Leadership Academy, an academy created to help chapter leaders find the keys to successful leadership within their chapters and building upon it.
State Vice Presidents Zach McGovern and Alexis O’Connell represented UW-Madison as they helped coordinate and run various conference workshops. McGovern and O’Connell were elected last year at the state conference and have continued to demonstrate their success at the state level by planning conferences such as the Fall Conference and implementing changes to various DECA programs including the Civic Consciousness project.
Each member of the chapter competed in two business case-study events ranging from Restaurant and Food Service to Sports and Entertainment Marketing. Despite over half the team being first time Collegiate DECA competitors, the chapter represented well by having over 20 medalists and 11 double medalists. Next up for the chapter is the coveted state conference held in Delavan, Wisconsin this upcoming March where each member will compete for a chance to qualify for the Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference to be held in April in Atlanta, Georgia. On, Wisconsin!
