Since 2020, I have had the pleasure of visiting the University of Wisconsin-Madison many times to visit my younger brother and a few of my closest friends. After visiting the campus, I decided to pursue an MBA at UW-Madison.

I graduated from the University of Illinois in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Consumer Economics and a concentration in Financial Planning. At the time, my goal was to work for a wealth management team and ultimately pursue my Series 7 and Series 65 licenses. A few months after graduation, my career aspirations shifted when I started working in the employee benefits industry with LEVR Health and selling insurance with WestPoint Financial Group.
I chose to pursue my MBA in Risk Management and Insurance to return to my roots of being a part of an underwriting, risk management, or employee benefits team. My goal is to develop leadership skills in the insurance industry to facilitate my career growth.
I am very excited to work with Faculty Director Ty Leverty, Director Jim Swanke, and Student Affairs Manager Linda Barrett. During orientation week, the team connected us with inspirational alumni who presented different career paths within the risk and insurance space: Gwendolyn Ezell of UW-Madison, Luke Frey of Adams Street Partners, Mike Mansell of American Family Ventures, Frank Sun of AbbVie, and Vicki Villarreal of Freddie Mac. It was moving to start the year learning from the varied experiences of these talented alumni.
This school year, I am looking forward to taking courses like Data to Decisions, Global Learning, and Principles of Risk Management. Also, I am pleased to be working with the Creative Destruction Lab.
My spare time will include attending Badger games at Camp Randall, taking frequent walks to Picnic Point, and dining at the Memorial Union and Forage Kitchen.
Regarding the summer of 2026, my current thought is to pursue an internship in underwriting, employee benefits, or risk management in Chicago or New York City.
I am excited to make the next two years amazing both in and out of the classroom. “When you say Wisconsin, you’ve said it all.”
