My first year in the Risk Management MBA Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison was a rewarding and rigorous experience. We first-years recently completed our core course requirements. In the fall, all first-years took accounting, finance, leadership, marketing, statistics, and supply chain management. During the spring semester, we studied business strategy, consulting practicum, economics, and ethics. I thoroughly enjoyed working with my classmates from other departments on cases and consulting assignments, and, most importantly, getting to know my teammates and understanding their goals after they graduate.

Additionally, I enjoyed the risk management & insurance courses I took this school year. In the fall, I started off taking Principles of Risk Management, ARM 400, and Captive Insurance with Jim Swanke. With 40+ years of running captive and insurance companies at WTW, Jim is always at the top of his game. He is always willing to advocate for students to maximize success in the classroom and in prospective job searches. During our spring semester, I have been taking Risk & Reinsurance with Professor Ben Collier and learning more about the structure of the insurance enterprise process with Kristina Talkowski.
In addition, risk management MBAs took ARM 402 and completed a risk management project with a Fortune 500 company. The highlights of the project were collaborating with the RMI team and our client to create a top-notch final presentation. After wrapping up our project, we were able to celebrate a great semester with an excellent meal with our client team.
I have worked hard both in and out of the classroom and am thankful to have earned a Business Intelligence internship at Bold Penguin this summer. I am excited to join an American Family Insurance-backed commercial insurtech company. Upon returning to campus this fall for my second year of the MBA program, I look forward to sharing what I will learn at Bold Penguin!
