Rick Bechtel serves as Executive Vice President and Head of U.S. Mortgage Banking for City National Bank and its parent, RBC. Based in Los Angeles, he is responsible for all aspects of the $23B Mortgage and $4B Home Equity businesses, including strategy, technology and product development, portfolio and P&L management, regulatory compliance, and leadership of national sales, secondary marketing, operations, and servicing.
Prior, he served as President of Mortgage for Compass, where he created and launched a nationwide independent mortgage bank supporting Compass’ 30,000 agents across the U.S. Rick has also served as EVP and Head of U.S. Residential Lending for TD Bank and Head of U.S. Mortgage for CIBC. His early career included 18 years at J.P. Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo.
Rick earned his BBA in finance and marketing from the Wisconsin School of Business and his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He has served as an advisor to the White House Council of Economic Advisors, is a member of the Board of Governors for the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, was the inaugural winner of the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Award and was named a HousingWire Vanguard Award winner, in addition to serving on multiple fintech, academic, and industry boards. He is married to Andrea, who is also a Wisconsin School of Business graduate, and they have three children. They reside in Glencoe, IL.
