From a young age, my aspirations have been focused on the dream of having my own company. I remember seeing my father trying to be successful in different kinds of businesses, from selling clothes and umbrellas to having a small bakery at home. Eventually, he found his calling in importing fabrics and towels to supply hotels. Witnessing the passion with which he endeavored to make the company successful and involving our family in the creative process made me realize I wanted the same.
The driving force behind my entrepreneurial journey comes from two desires: the first one is to make a positive impact in my hometown back in Costa Rica, as I envision myself as a channel to create new job opportunities in my town and be a part of its growth. The second one is contributing to the well-being of the community, especially children and their education. Education, as I learned early on, is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering individuals to create a better future.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance, I started a career journey that has been rewarding and formative. My professional experience spans over six years, beginning as an HR analyst before being promoted to Payroll Manager, a role I served for two years. With a great passion for numbers, I transitioned into finance, working as a Financial Analyst for a multinational software company for three years. However, my desire to get new challenges and align my career with my long-term aspirations led me to pursue the MA in Arts and Creative Enterprise Leadership at the Bolz Center.
This year, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a Teaching Assistant for two undergraduate courses in the Wisconsin School of Business, Managing Organizations and Leading Teams, which has been a rewarding experience. The Bolz Center has been the perfect place to integrate my passion for innovation, community impact, and entrepreneurship, offering opportunities to develop as a socially responsible leader in the arts and creative industries.
Looking ahead, my short-term goals include starting my own business and creating a nonprofit organization in Costa Rica to support children’s education. I am committed to using the skills I developed in the Bolz Center to implement a positive change and improve access to educational opportunities for children from underserved communities. I want to be part of a project dedicated to empowering and supporting children by developing innovative programs that integrate creativity into education.
