Spring 2018

Spring at the UW is always a busy time of year as students both work to complete their studies and begin the next chapter of their professional careers. Spring 2018 was no exception.

The students and Weinert Center have been active with some great outcomes and events this semester. We had an undergraduate entrepreneurship team represent the UW and win $5,000 at E-Fest (Eix.org), which is the Schulze Entrepreneurship Challenge at St. Thomas. The Enterprise Development Fellows visited Milwaukee and had the opportunity to meet with and learn from some great entrepreneurs and alumni. We also held our annual advisory board meeting where the WAVE teams pitched their business ideas in the morning and followed up with a lunch where we celebrated the student accomplishments and inducted successful entrepreneur and UW alum Paul Shain into the Weinert Center Hall of Fame. A great end to the semester. These activities are made possible by the great support of UW alumni and friends of the Center. The financial support and time they donate has a huge impact on the experience for the current students. Thank you!

We would also like to congratulate UW Professor & Weinert Center Executive Director Jon Eckhardt on receiving a $425,000 grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. The money will fund research on how universities can better foster entrepreneurial activity and economic growth through student entrepreneurship. This Kauffman Foundation research grant was very competitive so being a recipient is a great accomplishment for both Jon and the School.

Best regards,

Dan Olszewski
Director
Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship
