This semester has been a remarkable experience for the Risk Management & Insurance Society (RMIS). We would like to thank all of the alumni, industry professionals, and speakers who worked with RMIS members. It allowed us to create an inclusive environment of learning and growth.
Earlier this semester, 14 RMIS students attended the Chicagoland Risk Forum, an event dedicated to advancing knowledge and connections within the industry. The forum offered our members a valuable opportunity to network with industry professionals, gain insights into current trends, and participate in engaging presentations on topics ranging from emerging risks to innovative insurance solutions. This experience not only broadened students’ understanding of the field but also provided a platform to build meaningful relationships that will help us shape our future careers.
Back in Madison, the past 15 weeks were filled with many amazing events that we would like to highlight! We had the privilege of learning about the current state of the market from risk and insurance professionals – Ryan Brennan, Jenna Herr, and Sam Williams – who are all part of the Wisconsin RIMS Chapter. The discussion allowed students to gain a new perspective on the interactions between carriers, brokers, and clients in the risk and insurance industry.
Additionally, RMIS hosted HUB International’s Austin Bockwinkel and David Seno who gave an overview of private equity. They demonstrated how brokers create value in M&A transactions and also dove into the importance of representation and warranty insurance by explaining its role in private equity deals. This was an exceptional event, especially for the students interested in pairing Finance with Risk Management and Insurance. These just scratch the surface of what some of our speakers talked about. Overall, we strive to provide students with interesting events that tap into topics not traditionally covered within the content of our major’s classes.
Outside of the business school, we organized social events designed to help students connect and build relationships. We kicked off the semester with our tradition of enjoying cheese curds at Memorial Union after our first meeting—a favorite event filled with excitement as the semester began. Another highlight was volunteering at a Badger Hockey Game to raise funds for RMIS. This event not only supported the club’s future initiatives but also brought our members closer together as we worked toward a shared goal. While we love hosting events that dive into the risk and insurance industry, we also believe it’s important to remind our members that we’re college students who should be having fun, too. Striking this balance ensures that RMIS is not just career-focused but also a place where lasting memories and friendships are made.
A large focus within RMIS is creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where students can connect, learn about the industry, and build meaningful relationships. Behind the scenes, our Executive Board and leadership committees worked diligently to ensure RMIS continues to grow and improve for future semesters. It has been a growth-focused period as we tackled challenges, refined processes, and prepared for exciting changes ahead. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made and are eager to see RMIS thrive even more in the future.
