Heuiyun “Henry” Jeong is from South Korea and had been working at the Industrial Bank of Korea since 2011. During his time at IBK, he gained valuable experience in financial planning and economic research.
Henry was selected for a sponsorship program to come to the U.S. to obtain his MBA degree. Having worked for over 10 years, Henry described how the case study analysis and other practical knowledge that he has gained during the program has been particularly meaningful. This summer, Henry will return to South Korea to further his work experience in his home country.
Since Henry was not seeking an internship this past summer, he and his family were able to travel and experience various aspects of American culture. They visited several locations across the U.S. and North America. Henry also spent a lot of time visiting football and baseball stadiums and going to museums and art galleries with his family, which he shared was a memorable experience for him. Henry spent most of his time outside of class with his wife and son and enjoyed his leisurely time and travels.
Henry expressed great appreciation for his fellow classmates who helped him adapt to a foreign city and culture. He pointed out that Madison has been a very friendly place to live for Asian students and the locals were really friendly. During the program, he enjoyed many new experiences like attending Nicholas Center speaker events, a career trek to Minneapolis, and weekly Taps gatherings. Henry also enjoyed the opportunity to learn tennis and golf after coming to America.
Because Henry majored in business administration in his undergraduate studies, he found that the general finance and accounting courses were not new. However, courses related to business analytics, especially data visualization, causal experiments, and regression analysis, were very interesting and he looks forward to applying these new skills upon returning to his company. Henry also made time to study for his CPA and CMA certifications during the program. He especially enjoyed the collaborative educational setting and supportive and kind staff and faculty.
