The Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship at the Wisconsin School of Business was the recipient of the 2021 Excellence in Entrepreneurship Teaching and Pedagogical Innovation Award at the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC) conference in Baltimore on October 15-16, 2021. This award honors a center that has developed a significant original innovation in entrepreneurship pedagogy.
The Weinert Center was recognized for the Morgridge Entrepreneurial Bootcamp (MEB)’s innovative one-week, non-credit program in technology commercialization and entrepreneurship for graduate students and postdocs in the STEM fields. This immersive entrepreneurship program is designed for University of Wisconsin-Madison students who are interested in learning about entrepreneurship and high-impact, technology-driven ventures. It was initially piloted in 2007 and has grown to be one of the most successful and impactful entrepreneurship teaching programs on campus with over 850 alumni. Former participants have launched multiple companies and have raised over $450 million in funding. “We are incredibly fortunate to have an amazing group of instructors that include UW faculty, staff, alumni, experts from the community and even John Morgridge himself that really love working with this group of outstanding students” says Dan Olszewski, director of the Weinert Center.
GCEC is the premier organization for over 250 university-based entrepreneurship programs globally. It encourages centers to share best practices, develop programs and initiatives, and assist each other in advancing, strengthening and celebrating the role of universities in teaching the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
