The Return of Geopolitics: How Competition with China, Russia, and other Autocratic Powers will Shape the Future
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and China’s saber-rattling around Taiwan and elsewhere in the region signal the return of geopolitics as the primary driver of global engagement. We are entering an era in which core decisions on foreign, security, and economic policy will be driven by geopolitical competition rather than globalization, with major implications for how businesses will approach future investments. The competition will increasingly pit the advanced democracies against the growing number of autocracies of the world, and will therefore necessitate a fundamental shift in the ways countries and corporations engage with the world.
