Troy Van Beek is the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of American Family Insurance. In this role, Troy’s accountabilities include Finance, Controllership, Enterprise Risk Management, Investments, Reinsurance and Internal Audit.


Prior to this role, Troy was the President of Homesite Insurance and Chief Financial Officer of American Family Direct. In these roles, he had responsibility for strategy development and implementation, profit and growth performance, and overall financial health of the American Family Direct group of operating companies and business units.


Prior to these roles, Troy was the Vice President of Finance at American Family Insurance, where he led a team that is responsible for planning and communicating the organization`s strategic financial objectives through the development and analysis of plans, and the timely and accurate reporting of results. The Finance Division under Troy’s leadership was comprised of Budget & Financial Analysis; Tax; Accounting; Treasury; Corporate Development / M&A; Sourcing & Procurement; and Business Technology & Planning.


Prior to assuming the Finance Vice President role, Troy was the Enterprise Capital Management Director at American Family Insurance, where he was responsible for developing, implementing and directing the overall strategy for capital management and investment risk management for the enterprise. The capital management function includes economic capital modeling, capital allocation, return on capital and strategic risk modeling. Prior to this role, Troy held a variety of roles in the Accounting Department within the Finance Division at American Family.


Prior to American Family, Troy worked in the Transaction Services practice at PwC in Chicago, where he advised clients on accounting, valuation and financial reporting issues related to a variety of transactions and events. Prior to PwC, Troy served a one-year rotation at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in Norwalk, CT, where he participated in US and international accounting standard setting activities related primarily to business combinations, financial instruments and stock-based compensation. Troy has also served as a Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he instructed intermediate accounting courses in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems.


Troy completed his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Masters of Accountancy at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He previously held Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designations.
Troy is a member of the Accounting Department Advisory Board and the Nicholas Center for Corporate Finance and Investment Banking Advisory Board, both within the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
