Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) alumni are active in a variety of important roles with our current students. One method that takes limited time and effort, yet makes a large impact, is making a financial gift.
One of our hopes is to purchase individual study materials so that interested students may prepare for the SHRM-CP certification exam the spring of their second year. Ideally, students would have the credential before graduating. We also would like to take our students on an annual industry visit to complement their in-class studies. Gifts of any amount will assist in the funding of these efforts.
Two SHRM contributors have reflected about why they give:
Supporting the SHRM Center financially is a critical means of ensuring it continues to support the needs of current and future students. For me, ‘paying it forward’ to the Center comes in two forms: spending time mentoring students, and making financial gifts. What better way to thank those who supported the Center when I was a student than by giving to the Center today to support future generations of SHRM MBAs?
-Ben Burney (SHRM MBA ’08)
When I came to UW-Madison as a student in the early 1980s, my career prospects were, at best, ‘uncertain.’ Four years later, I started as an assistant professor at Cornell University. That was the beginning of a career full of great opportunities that has exceeded my expectations. I owe that in large part to Wisconsin and the faculty and staff who provided me with such a great start all those years ago. Now, I enjoy doing my own small part to help provide these opportunities for our current students. I know the high quality of our programs (like our MBA in Strategic Human Resource Management) and students. So, I know whatever I give will be put to very good use.
