We are so proud of our Wisconsin Real Estate Undergraduate Case Competition Teams — both received first place in two challenging case competitions this semester! The team of Riley Prinsen, Denis Yandrow, and Ashley Alberston placed first at the 2024 NAIOP Minnesota Chapter Development Case Competition; and Shane Donohue, Georgia Goff, Brenna Paul, Jessica Pientka, and Krishna Kashian also placed first at the 2024 Boston College Corcoran Case Competition. Thank you to Arif Qureshi, Senior Lecturer, for teaching the prep course and team selection.
NAIOP Minnesota Team
The NAIOP Minnesota Chapter Development Case Competition had a field of six other formidable BBA teams. Riley Prinsen, Denis Yandrow, and Ashley Alberston worked diligently for eight weeks to develop a proposal for a 11.4-acre site in downtown Saint Paul, MN. Their proposal included 215 affordable multifamily units, 130,000 sqft of industrial, 22,000 sqft of historical office, and 328 parking spaces. They performed a feasibility analysis of 9 different uses, complied with St. Paul Airport Safety Zone density mandates, scored LIHTC tax application, added sustainability features to reduce operating expenses, provided a risk mitigation strategy for each step of the process, and gave two outstanding presentations.
Boston College Corcoran Team
The team made up of Shane Donohue, Georgia Goff, Brenna Paul, Jessica Pientka, and Krishna Kashian placed first at the 2024 Boston College Corcoran Case Competition. They beat 70 teams from 46 universities.
The team also worked methodically for eight weeks to develop a proposal for a 1.55-acre site on the 388-acre West LA VA Campus in Brentwood, CA. Their proposal included 69 affordable apartment units at 40% AMI, 69 parking spaces, community programming, a health/wellness center, and LEED Silver certification. They performed a feasibility analysis to align with the West LA VA Campus Community Plan and the stringent requirements of LIHTC and Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities soft loan (AHSC). As a result, the project met affordability requirements, addressed the community needs, included sustainability features to reduce operating expenses, provided a risk mitigation strategy for each process step, and gave an outstanding presentation.
