Our Marketing Leadership Institute (MLI) alumni go on to do many great things in their careers. Sometimes their career paths can be predictable and sometimes we can’t imagine what they’ll do. But Tyler Sachse has no lack of imagination. Tyler, who graduated from the Wisconsin School of Business’ MBA Center for Brand and Product Management in 2012, has recently published a children’s book that combines his passion for branding with a mission to inspire young entrepreneurs. His book, Something Brand New: Inspiration for Kid Marketers, introduces children to the world of branding and business in a fun, creative way. The inspiration for this unique project came from Tyler’s own experiences as a father, watching his two sons, who are now 15 and 8 years old, develop an interest in business from an early age. Sharing with us, he states, “Around first grade, both of my boys started coming up with ‘entrepreneurial ideas”, Tyler shared. “Some were realistic, some were way out there… but they loved coming up with a name or having a logo they could put on stickers or a notepad”.
Since graduating from the MLI in 2012, Tyler has built an impressive career in marketing and brand management. He’s held leadership positions at 3M, including directing brand strategy for the Safety & Industrial Business Group, and served as the Director of Marketing at Great Lakes Higher Education. Currently, Tyler is the Vice President and Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer for Novation Credit Union. In addition to his corporate roles, Tyler co-founded Birch and Wolf LLC, a brand agency focused on helping entrepreneurs, startups, and small businesses developing their brand identities. He is also building his own publishing brand, Lila Skog Books. That thrill of chasing new ideas helped him fuel his ideas for his new book. Something Brand New: Inspiration for Kid Marketers features twenty fictional kid-run businesses, complete with names and logos, organized into five different naming strategies. He hopes this book will encourage children to be creative and understand that “marketing is storytelling, and your brand can go a long way toward telling your story and giving you confidence in your story”.
Tyler’s journey from MBA student to published author and marketing executive is a testament to the versatile skills and entrepreneurial spirit we aim to cultivate at the Wisconsin School of Business. His advice to current students and aspiring entrepreneurs? “Everyone should have a side gig or passion project as a creative outlet. It’s only additive to your ability to do you ‘day job’ well”.
We’re proud of Tyler’s accomplishments and excited to see how his book inspires the next generation of entrepreneurs and marketers. We look forward to seeing what other creative projects he will tackle in the future! Be sure to connect with Tyler via LinkedIn to follow his journey and receive any updates on his future endeavors!
Congratulations, Tyler, on this fantastic achievement!
