Two new exciting finance courses will be available in the 2018 fall semester. Financial Fraud Throughout History: A Forensic Approach is a 2-credit course taught by Jim Chanos. Jim is a legendary investor who currently serves as president and founder of Kynikos Associates, a New York City registered investment advisor who focuses on short selling. Chanos gained notability as a short seller when he predicted the fall of Enron Corporation before it filed for bankruptcy in 2001. Mr. Chanos will be flying into Madison specifically to teach this MBA Finance course. The second course will explore the fundamentals of Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Blockchain and Smart Contracts. Brad Chandler, Director of the Nichols Center for Corporate Finance & Investment Banking and former Managing Director in the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanley will teach this course. The objective of this 1-credit course is for students to gain the conceptual foundation to understanding the value proposition of these new technologies. This new course is open to both business and non-business majors from varied disciplines (computer science, economics, and engineering), undergrads and graduate students.
