At the end of April, sixteen undergraduate risk management and insurance students had the opportunity to attend the 2019 Annual Risk Management Society (RIMS) Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. The students spent three days networking with industry professionals, participating in sessions focused on current factors impacting the industry, and exploring the historic city of Boston.
Not long after checking into their hotel, students had the privilege to attend a networking event to chat specifically with UW alumni. Students were able to learn more about the career paths of other Badgers and get advice on how to navigate the industry. Over the remaining days of the conference, students attended a private breakfast with company representatives from Chubb and Intel, toured the Marsh analytics lab, and networked with risk and insurance students from other universities.
Additionally, students were able to tailor their free time to fit their career interests and passions by attending learning sessions and walking around the exhibition hall to interact with representatives from different companies. Students also had time to participate in some history by walking the Freedom Trail.
Overall, students had a great and worthwhile experience at the 2019 Annual RIMS Conference. While finals were soon on the horizon, students knew that the knowledge gained from the conference was worth the slight delay in studying.
Thank you to all of the faculty, donors, and alumni that made this trip possible!
