What do guessing the number of pennies in a jar or poring over real estate listings have to do with investing in a new product or project? Plenty, according to research from Jordan Tong, associate professor of operations and information management at the Wisconsin School of Business.

Tong’s expertise is in decision-making, and his research study—“Good Choice, Bad Judgment: How Choice Under Uncertainty Generates Overoptimism,” published by Psychological Science—provides insights and takeaways that can be applied to the business world.

Tong spoke about his research at WSB’s Celebration of Faculty Excellence, an event held for the Business Badger community during Homecoming weekend in October 2018. The event highlighted the accomplishments of WSB’s distinguished faculty and the generosity of the donors who support their work.
