WSB Accounting Doctoral Alums Receive Outstanding Dissertation Awards From the American Accounting Association

Three Wisconsin School of Business accounting alumni were honored by the American Accounting Association (AAA) with Outstanding Dissertation Awards during 2022 and 2023. The awards recognize dissertation excellence across the various fields in accounting.

Linette Rousseau (PhD ’22), currently an assistant professor at the University of Houston, received the AAA’s Auditing Section 2023 Outstanding Dissertation Award. The award is given to recognize the most outstanding contribution to auditing knowledge.

David Samuel (PhD ’22), now an assistant professor with Singapore Management University, received the AAA’s Taxation Section 2023 Outstanding Dissertation Award. The award is given to the year’s most outstanding dissertation based on originality, quality, and contribution to the literature.

In Gyun Baek (PhD ’21), currently an assistant professor with the National University of Singapore, was honored with the AAA’s Management Section 2022 Outstanding Dissertation Award, which recognizes outstanding dissertation research in the field of management accounting.

“The AAA awards are a testament to [these scholars’] hard work and dedication to research,” says Dan Lynch, Jay Price Professor in Accounting and an associate professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems. “I am extremely proud of all of our recent graduates.”

Founded in 1916, the AAA is the largest community of accountants in academia. The organization serves to further the discipline and profession of accounting through education, research, and service.
