Morgan Meyer (BBA ’24) is an incoming Real Estate MS graduate student with a bright future ahead of her! Morgan has received multiple scholarships and awards, as well as the prestigious UW System Higher Education Fellowship in the UW System Office of Capital Planning and Budget, where she will work with UW System’s Real Estate Specialist to manage the existing real estate across the UW campuses while also evaluating prospective opportunities. She will also have the opportunity to conduct her own research. Thank you to Morgan for taking time to share more about her background and her inspiration for enrolling in Wisconsin’s one-year MS Program.
Please tell us about your background. I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin before attending UW-Madison for my undergraduate degree where I majored in real estate in finance. I was involved in both Women in Real Estate and Real Estate Club where I met so many great people and ultimately decided to continue my education at Wisconsin in the Real Estate MS program. In my free time, I enjoy golfing, hiking, spending time by the lake, and trying new things with friends and family.
Why did you choose to enroll in UW-Madison’s Real Estate MS Program? Having completed my undergrad in real estate at UW-Madison, I fell in love with the real estate program and knew I wanted to continue my education here. Wisconsin’s real estate program is unique in that there are so many opportunities to get involved, and the program provides you with an amazing support system that encourages you to find your passions and goals. The people ultimately make the program, and I have had the opportunity to become a part of such a knowledgeable community. Continuing my education as a part of UW-Madison’s Real Estate MS Program will provide me with invaluable opportunities and lifelong benefits.
What are plans for the summer? I am currently working for Ascentris as a Private Equity Analyst in Denver, CO. The firm specializes in value-add investment opportunities in major asset classes across larger US metros. Here, I have the opportunity to underwrite prospective acquisitions, manage our existing assets, and research. I am grateful to be surrounded by such intelligent people (and many fellow Badgers) who I can continue to learn and grow from.
What are your plans for the future (post-graduation)? Post-graduation, I hope to pursue a career in real estate and continue learning. I am excited about the prospect of moving to a new city, creating new experiences, and hopefully traveling more.
What are you most looking forward to as a new graduate student in the Wisconsin Real Estate Program?
The part of graduate school I am most looking forward to is meeting new people. The Wisconsin Real Estate Program has always attracted intelligent and inspiring individuals who I will be able to learn from. I feel that the people you are surrounded by in your classrooms can teach you just as much as the courses themselves. I am excited to be immersed among like-minded individuals and make lifelong connections.
Congratulations on your ICSC and WREAA scholarships and for being selected as a Graduate Fellow for the 2024-25 UW System Higher Education in the UW System Office of Capital Planning & Budget. What are the responsibilities of this Fellowship? What do you hope to learn from your experience as a fellow? During my fellowship, I will be working alongside the UW System’s Real Estate Specialist. We will work to manage the existing real estate across the UW campuses while also evaluating prospective opportunities. I am also looking forward to conducting my own research within the fellowship program and engaging with other fellows to learn more about their own work and experiences. I hope to learn more about the real estate process at a university level and am excited to broaden my knowledge by working alongside other fellows who can share their diverse expertise.
Anything else you’d like to share? I also recently received a scholarship from the Appraisal Institute Education Relief Foundation (AIERF).
