Women make up a small proportion of the workforce in male dominated industries and are never able to catch up to the rate of male promotions. While there has been a steady increase of women entering male-dominated fields they continue to face challenges. Historically, women have been pigeonholed into lower paying and service-based fields associated with feminine traits (like kindness and care work). However, they bring innovation and adaptability into male dominated industries. Women provide different perspectives on projects and instantly widen a talent pool. Research from Forbes magazine notes that there is often a direct correlation between more women in leadership positions and higher firm performance.
