Recently, the RMI MBA cohort was able to take a networking trip to the Chicago Loop and meet several successful alumni in the risk, insurance, and banking industry. This trip also afforded the group the chance to meet industry experts, deepen our working knowledge of risk and insurance, and, of course, enjoy the city.

During our first night in the Chicago Loop, we held an alumni reception and connected with several recent graduates as well as some RMI advisory board members. This was valuable in that we got to discuss recent graduates’ experiences in development and training programs at companies like Munich Re while simultaneously connecting with other senior industry leaders, such as Zurich’s head of property insurance and chief financial officer.

The next day, we participated in site visits starting with JP Morgan Chase. The team walked us through the various operating segments of the bank before discussing the commercial banking practice, specifically within the Middle Markets and Life Sciences division. This team analyzed how the bank can fund and provide treasury services for new ventures in this space. Next, we spent time at Zurich Insurance where we met with a team of brokers as well as leaders on both the Cyber and Underwriting teams. It was fascinating to hear about how nuanced AI’s impact will be to underwriting and claims management while caveated with the unique and emerging risks that AI utilization also brings. We ended our day at Gallagher where we received an in-depth look at insurance brokerage processes, risk management services, and the business lifecycle, specifically within the context of construction and infrastructure projects in Chicago and the surrounding area.

It was a pleasure to visit some of the world’s largest and most successful organizations in the financial services industry. Chicago is also a large hub for Wisconsin alumni and we certainly look forward to staying connected to the fantastic Business Badger network within the city. After meeting with the awesome teams and seeing the offices, I am excited to continue to build professional relationships in the area and further explore the unique business opportunities within the city. Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with our cohort and we look forward to meeting next time!
