Celebrating at the Risk and Insurance Spring Banquet

Each year the Risk and Insurance Department hosts a banquet in April to celebrate the many achievements from the past year. Students, faculty, advisors, supporters, and department friends gather together for this joyous event.

This was my second year planning the banquet, and I loved helping out again because of the wonderful team. The banquet would not be as successful as it is without the wonderful leadership and planning done by Jodi Wortsman and all of the undergraduates: Eric Fridl, Melissa Hoey, Shela Mansor, Gabriel Pienkos, Clare Stumpf, Brittni Tonnessen, and Jake Thornton. It was great getting to know some more members of the department as well as connecting with past friends!

I personally could not pick a favorite part of the night because it all was so enjoyable. The social time during the reception was a fun way to mingle with a lot of people before dinner. The speeches were all so incredible. As a Risk Management and Insurance student, I do not know a lot of what goes on in the Actuarial Science program, so it was enlightening to hear from Forest Wu, the president of the Actuarial Science Club and Kirk Peter, the faculty advisor for the club. They have some awesome programs within their club! Hearing from Becky Cacioppo, the president of Risk Management and Insurance Society (RMIS), and Carl Barlett made me feel bittersweet as a graduating senior. I am so pleased with all the events from RMIS, and it is a part of school I will definitely miss. And on top of all of that, the food was delicious!

This is a personal time of reflection as I am about to graduate. As I think about my time in school and as I move on to the insurance industry, I could not imagine being in a different department. I have learned a great deal, had many amazing professional opportunities, and most importantly, have had a community of support from the faculty and friends I have made along the way.

On Wisconsin!
