Research from two Ph.D. candidates at the UW–Madison Wisconsin School of Business was cited in Inc. magazine’s recent article, “Should You Quit Your Day Job? Study Says No.”
In their paper, Joseph Raffiee and Jie Feng, Ph.D. candidates in management and human resources, question whether or not entrepreneurs should quit their day jobs to pursue new business ventures.
Feng and Raffiee focus on what they call “hybrid entrepreneurs”—individuals who waded into the waters of entrepreneurship slowly rather than jumping in with both feet, breaking from the traditional stereotype of a successful entrepreneur.
“Steve Wozniak remained an employee at Hewlett-Packard long after co-founding Apple,” Raffiee explains. “Pierre Omidyar launched eBay while working for a software development company.”
