International Business Major Change

By Wisconsin School of Business

January 24, 2023

Welcome back!  We hope your spring term is off to a great start! We wanted to share changes to our International Business Major.

The International Business major will be transitioning for new students to a certificate as of Fall 2023. Current business students will have until June 1st, 2023 to declare this major. Interested in the IB major and haven’t declared yet? You can declare via this form.  Anyone enrolled in the major prior to June 1st, 2023 will have until 2028 to complete it.

After June 1st 2023, the major will transition to a new Certificate in International Business, open to all business students. The certificate will require fewer IB credits (13 credits), yet will retain the study abroad requirement and feature the same IB courses offered in the School of Business and through our study abroad programs. We hope this will encourage more students to elect this important domain of study while also providing them with more flexibility!   Please note that students current students cannot pursue both the major and certificate.

We are working to improve the International Business Program in other respects also, such as resumption of undergraduate international business short-term global immersions (these will in the form of 3-credit IB 365 courses; stay tuned for more information later this year), expanding semester study abroad programs to new economies, co-curricular opportunities with the Madison International Trade Association and Madison Committee on Foreign Relations, and Coffee Chats with industry practitioners.  If you have questions please connect with your academic advisor.
