Every Fall Semester a scholarship is offered by the Wisconsin School of Business for up to six UW-Madison undergraduate students to attend the Middle East Institute’s annual conference in Washington, D.C. This event will provide students with an excellent opportunity to learn about the current challenges faced by Middle Eastern nations and to network with an estimated 600+ attendees from a diverse array of backgrounds.
The scholarship provides for:
- airfare
- lodging
- conference registration costs
- local transport
The conference, which will take place from November 12-13, 2019, has traditionally consisted of a banquet, followed by several panel discussions focused on contemporary Middle Eastern topics, such as political transition following the Arab Spring protests. Previous speakers for the event include Susan E. Rice, President Obama’s National Security Advisor, and Ryan C. Crocker, a former United States ambassador to Afghanistan, Iraq, and several other Middle Eastern countries.
Applications for the scholarship are due by 11:55pm September 22, 2019, and interviews will be held in late September or early October. The application materials can be found on Handshake by searching for “Middle East Institute Annual Conference – Leidel Scholarship” or “2937112”.
