Starting this spring, students in the Professional MBA at the Wisconsin School of Business can easily add real estate to their areas of expertise through the Real Estate Badge. The Professional MBA is a part-time hybrid degree that students can complete within 2 to 5 years. It caters to busy professionals by offering the flexibility of online classes and the rich experience of collaborating with peers and instructors.
Real Estate is now one of nine badges that students can pursue through the two-year master’s degree program designed for business professionals. Students must attain four badges to complete the degree. In addition to Real Estate, the following badges are offered: Business Analytics, Customer Insights, Financial Insights, Global Business, Strategic Growth, Strategic Innovation and Consulting.
All other badges have offered for the past several years, and Real Estate was added in response to students’ suggestions. It offers customizable option that lets students pursue elective coursework to explore their individual career path to success.
Three courses are necessary for completion of the Real Estate Badg:
- RE701: The Real Estate Process
- RE702: Commercial Property Analysis
- RE703: Real Estate Investment Analysis
These courses teach the concepts and technical skills necessary to comprehensively analyze commercial real estate, balancing quantitative aptitude with qualitative insights. Some key learning objectives are how real estate impacts many aspects of our daily lives and evaluating the ethical and societal implications of real estate investment and development decisions.
Tim Carr
Real Estate Program Director
Courses are developed and taught by faculty from the WSB’s Real Estate Program. Real Estate Program Director Tim Carr will teach RE701: The Real Estate Process in the spring. Carr is looking forward to working with business professionals who come into the class with differing levels of experience.
“For some, we will be opening their eyes to this exciting world of commercial real estate, while with others we will be building up their skill set in working with commercial real estate within their company’s portfolio,” Carr said.
Students take badge courses in the one to four additional years it takes to complete the Professional MBA program after the first year of core cohort experience. Badges are offered on a rotating basis, with 2-3 options each quarter.
The degree is a great choice for students looking to gain foundation skills while exploring their individual interests through elective coursework, now including Real Estate. The badge complements many career paths like finance, real estate investment analysis and city planning.
