Over spring break, I joined my Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) MBA classmates and Professor Joan Schmit for a trip to London. The London visit allowed us the opportunity to connect with industry professionals, UW alumni, and experience the “insurance capital of the world.” The timing of our visit also allowed us to take in Brexit-related events and (unintentionally) protests–-definitely a unique experience.
Meeting with leaders from top brokers, insurance companies, and law firms allowed us to apply concepts gathered during our academic studies. Additionally, we had the pleasure of meeting with Matt Peterman, the founder of VouchForMe. VouchForMe is an insurtech startup seeking to disrupt the insurance industry by changing the way individuals purchase insurance.
Our visit with Matt was lively because of our interest in innovation and the future of insurance. We learned about Matt’s background and vision for VouchForMe and some of the key problems VouchForMe seeks to solve. It was especially compelling to compare the VouchForMe business model across countries as our group’s experiences span the U.S., Europe, China, and India. Each of these territories brings unique challenges for insurtech startups. It will certainly be interesting to watch Matt and his team tackle the challenge of attracting users to their platform.
Thank you to Matt Peterman for sharing his time and insights, and to the generous supporters of the University of Wisconsin RMI program who helped make this trip possible.
