EntrepreNews
Winter 2018
We are excited for the start of a new year and the many wonderful things happening in our Entrepreneurship Community!
We have a new Dean and have news about several projects the Center has worked on with Wisconsin Public Television (WPT). But first, a big congratulations is due to Weinert Board member Dan Reed, former AmFam ventures and UW alum Kyle Nakatsuji, and the team of American Family Ventures for the recent acquisition of Ring by Amazon for a reported $1 Billion. American Family Ventures and the innovation group lead by Peter Gunder has become the innovation model for other large employers to try to emulate. Techcrunch has an article about the acquisition of Ring HERE.
We are pleased that Barry Gerhart was appointed the Interim Dean of the Wisconsin School of Business. Barry is a greatly respected member of our faculty. He is known globally for his scholarship on topics such as compensation, human resource management, and research methodology. You might not know, that as Chairman of the Management and Human Resources Department Barry played a major role in the creation and design of the certificate programs that have been key to the success of the Weinert Center in recent years. The current plan is for Barry to serve as Dean until August 2019 while the University conducts a national search for a permanent Dean.
Lastly, we are honored that WPT has been featuring stories on entrepreneurship and the work of the Weinert Center in several different shows. In addition to the show Start Up Wisconsin discussed below, WPT sent crews to record the Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Showcase (Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Showcase, Building Technology Startups in Wisconsin) and EatStreet CEO Matt Howard (EatStreet) presenting in our MHR 322 course.
Thank you for your continued support of our great University and the Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship. I hope you enjoy reading about the work of our students, faculty and staff.
Respectfully,
Jon Eckhardt
Executive Director
