Homeowners` insurance is getting more expensive—and harder to get.
Philip Mulder, assistant professor of risk and insurance at the Wisconsin School of Business, recently testified before the U.S. Senate on a growing national issue: the rising cost and reduced availability of homeowners insurance.
His research reveals:
📌 Premiums are up 48% since 2020
📌 Policy non-renewals have doubled
📌 The biggest increases are in areas hit hardest by wildfires and hurricanes
In addition to the coasts, states like Oklahoma and Colorado are also seeing sharp increases.
Mulder’s message: climate risk is reshaping the housing market—and the economic impacts are already here.
📚 Smarter policies, better data, and investments in resilient infrastructure are critical next steps.

His message? Success isn’t about titles. It’s about purpose.
“I can talk about my occupation, but I’d rather talk about my vocation. To me, that’s service and leadership.”
Maema’s journey—from undergrad at @uwmadison to the @nfl to managing a $7M student-led portfolio as a WSB master`s student—reflects the courage and commitment we’re proud to see in every WSB grad.
