Jocelyn Friedman developed a passion for real estate while working in administrative roles in the industry. She decided to get the credentials required to build a career in real estate development. The Wisconsin MBA Program is providing the foundational business skills and opportunities she needs. Jocelyn is getting a general MBA core along with a specialized focus on all aspects of real estate management—a combination that will allow her to grow her career in any direction.
The Wisconsin MBA gives me the unique opportunity to specialize in exactly what I want to do. My goal is to become a real estate developer. With the Wisconsin MBA I am getting a high-quality business foundation that will give me more career flexibility. I am also getting a focused, deep dive into all aspects of the real estate industry, from properties through portfolios. I am really excited to be learning so much about real estate so quickly in the specialized portion of the curriculum.

The fundamental coursework will be essential for my career success. I have learned so much from interacting in my core classes with students from other specializations. The different perspectives they bring are giving me a much broader view that will make me a better leader. And all the core classes have been a great complement to my real estate specialization curriculum, especially business strategy, finance and economics, which have really been beneficial since I did not have a business background coming in.
Applied learning opportunities provide great hands-on experience. Projects through our Residential Property Development course go beyond theory and focus on real sites and real situations. Currently we are advising the City of Monona on proposals for some difficult land parcels the city is hoping to develop.
The Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni group has really made an impact on my education. Members of this tight-knit group are well-connected alumni with extraordinary expertise. They are always willing to offer advice or help with career opportunities. With our small class size and the large and engaged alumni group, there is always support when you need it.
