Pre-MBA career experience:
Technical Recruiter for Beacon Hill Staffing Group here in Madison
Post-MBA career goal:
Eventually, I’d like to be in a strategic, HR Business Partner position where I can be involved in the strategic vision of the company and create initiatives to promote growth and drive talent. Before, I was very siloed in recruiting, and I want to expand my skillset and academic experiences to create initiatives and drive growth in a company. Right out of business school, I would really like to be in a rotational program so I can deep-dive into various HR functions.
Why choose Wisconsin MBA?
Culture is something that is really important to me. I did my undergrad at UW-Madison too, and I truly felt how much professors and staff members wanted us to succeed. In addition to the culture, I was very intrigued by how specialized the program is. While I know I’ll get the strong general business and management understanding, I’ll also be able to build a really solid specialization in HR so that I can work across all areas of the business in my function. Furthermore, Madison is such a fantastic city; I stayed here since I graduated from undergrad, and I have so many good things to say about the city as a whole.
Advice:
You are where you are meant to be. As one of the younger individuals in the program, I have felt instances of imposter syndrome. There are really impressive people in this program, and it’s easy to compare oneself, especially when they might have more experience. The great thing about UW-Madison is that everyone wants you to succeed. It’s competitive, and it will be tough, but everyone is on your side.
Fun fact:
I went through a big baking phase when I was younger, and I was obsessed with the show “Cake Boss.” So much so that I got tickets to Buddy Valastro’s live show. I raised my hand when he asked for volunteers, and I got to make a cake with him on stage. I was star-struck.
