During the Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) spring break trip to London, MBA students had the privilege and opportunity of joining lawyer Clive O’Connell during lunch at his firm’s office for an open discussion on a range of topics. Clive, a published writer in many different areas, shared insights with students and answered questions about topics including Brexit, GDPR, and Alternative Risk Transfer, all of which are ever changing and impacting the risk and insurance landscape.
The conversation about Brexit was particularly lively because discussions around the legislation were happening in real time as we were in London. While there, we were able to experience firsthand how the public felt about what was ongoing from a political standpoint. Clive offered his own perspective and shared history on the subject that was enlightening for us students to hear. Additionally, he provided insights into what Brexit might mean specifically for insurers both domiciled in the UK as well as those who do business within UK borders. Despite the unknowns, it was interesting to hear how insurers have developed risk management contingency plans for the events that may or may not happen, and how Clive himself had advised insurers on the matter.
A big thank you to Clive (pictured above) for taking the time to share his knowledge with all of us.
