The recently opened Entrepreneurship Science Lab is one of the newest additions to the entrepreneurial space on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus with the purpose of using data science to facilitate entrepreneurship on college campuses. By supporting the success of enterprising students, benefits go well beyond campus as local economies stand to gain jobs, commerce, and revenue created by their ventures. As Professor Jon Eckhardt states, “Entrepreneurs are our source of new products and services, in addition to new jobs.”
The Entrepreneurship Science Lab opened in January 2021 and is housed within the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID). Under the leadership of Professor Jon Eckhardt and Professor Brent Goldfarb of the University of Maryland, it is staffed with two postdoctoral researchers, two PhD students, and several undergraduate students whose research is focused on identifying the mechanisms that drive successful outcomes among student entrepreneurs.
