Fall 2018
Greetings Alumni and Friends of the Weinert Center,
The Fall semester is off to a great start. Thanks to support from Paul Reckwerdt and Ellen Rosner, the Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Showcase continues to help students across the campus understand the challenges and rewards of pursuing careers in entrepreneurship. This year, we were honored to have Jennifer Lane and Priyanka Verma (Laquerus), Ryan Feit (SeedInvest), and Dick Schulze (Best Buy) as speakers. Jennifer (MBA 2017) and Priyanka (MBA 2017) spoke about their innovative nail studio located on West Gilman Street, which is a stone’s throw away from Andrew Foster’s (MBA 2018) recently opened FreshFin Poké restaurant. You can book a nail appointment at this link, https://laquerus.com/book-appointment/ and show off your new nails while dining at FreshFin.
We continue to strengthen our programs. Adam Bock recently returned from a benchmarking trip to Babson. As we went to press, we learned that Professor Martin Ganco and alum Joe Raffiee (MBA 2010 Ph.D. 2016) along with Rajshree Agarwal at the University of Maryland received a research grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. In the last several years, we have secured well over $800,000 in research funding to support novel work on topics such as student-entrepreneurship and more recently Ganco, Raffiee, and Agarwal’s work on immigrant entrepreneurship.
This year our enrollment will continue to exceed over 1,700 students. This expansion would not be possible without your involvement. Thank you for spending time working with our students and for your support of our programs.
As the holiday season approaches, I hope you are well and that you are making great progress on your important endeavors. We hope to see you soon.
Respectfully,
Jon Eckhardt
